Extra perlite for better drainage
Because we do not have to control the amount of precipitation when gardening outdoors, it may be useful to provide extra drainage. When coconut gets too much water, it can get too wet for the roots of the plants. The plants will then be able to grow anything but good and of course we want to prevent that as a grower as much as possible. Wilma’s Lawn & Garden took this into account, adding extra perlite to the Cocolite-22. The drainage of the substrate improves considerably. Excess (rain) water can be easily drained, so that the crop is not affected. Due to the good drainage properties of Cocolite-22, this culture medium is also very suitable for cultivation methods where the plants are supplied with water via an irrigation system.
Because water is given to the plants much more often in these breeding methods, it is important that the excess water can easily drain through the airy structure of the substrate. The important characteristics of Cocolite-22 are therefore a high oxygen permeability, an optimal airiness of the substrate and a rapid drainage of excess water!
Better oxygen permissibility
Everything that makes the substrate looser and lighter, facilitates the drainage of excess water and improves the oxygen permeability. The extra perlite granules added to Cocolite-22 not only ensure good drainage, but also provide a larger supply of oxygen in the substrate, allowing plenty of oxygen to reach the roots of the plants. If the substrate can not dispose of the excess rainwater, the roots can even suffocate due to a too wet surface.
Healthy root system
The condition of a plant is largely determined by the quality of the root system. If the health of the root system is affected, the plant will also begin to fall off. If the substrate is not good as a base, the entire further growth stage of the plant will proceed with difficulty. It is known that the quality of a plant is determined for 50% by the quality of the root system under the ground. Only with a healthy and large root volume can a plant develop optimally. If the substrate in which the roots grow is not of the right composition, then the roots will not develop sufficiently and the chances of a successful cultivation have actually already gone wrong. In order to ensure that a substrate is of good quality and meets the needs of the plant, it is important to assess the substrate well and to pay attention to
RHP quality mark
For Cocolite-22 the fibers used in the bark of coconuts are used. These fibers naturally contain a high concentration of salt, because most coconut trees grow in the vicinity of the sea. Such high concentrations of salt are not suitable for growing plants and therefore the fibers are first washed well. After the salt has been washed out, the coconut fibers are stripped of germs and / or vermin by means of hot steam. This special treatment largely determines the quality of the coconut substrate. Cocolite-22 is provided with the RHP quality mark (Regeling Handels Potgronden), this guarantees that the coconut fibers have been washed, steamed and buffered in the right way. When buffing the coconut fibers, magnesium and lime are added in the water in which the fibers are washed. This addition already provides the right minerals!
RHP quality mark
Cocolite-22 is provided with the RHP quality mark. This guarantees a high-quality coconut substrate. The coconut fibers are properly washed, steamed and buffered, so that an optimal substrate can be guaranteed.
