Cocolite-11 comes standard with fertilizers and minerals. In this way, the young plants can have important fertilizers from planting. The combination of coconut and perlite in Cocolite-11 ensures a good moisture balance and airiness of the substrate. Cocos has an ideal structure for this, so that water with added fertilizers is easily retained and so quickly absorbed by the roots of the plant. Due to the addition of perlite, the coconut substrate remains fairly light, so that the roots get a lot of oxygen. The plants get a healthy and strong root system and therefore develop optimally. One of the big advantages of growing on coconut is that the coconut fiber guarantees a clean substrate and that ensures excellent breeding results. The chance of over-fertilization is therefore small. In order to ensure that the breeding ground remains in good condition and prevent the accumulation of nutrient salts in the substrate over time, Wilma’s Lawn & Garden advises irrigating the plants with clean tap water at regular intervals. At a certain moment the power is gone. It is therefore advisable to feed all types of substrate with one of our Wilma’s Lawn & Garden plant fertilizers.
High water retention capacity
Cocolite-11 has been specially developed to keep water in the substrate for longer. This characteristic is referred to by professional gardeners as ‘water retention’. The main characteristics of Cocolite-11 are therefore an optimal water absorption, a good water distribution and a high water retention capacity. This gives the plants a longer opportunity to absorb moisture. Because Cocolite-11 holds the water very well, it is less often necessary to water the plants than when using a traditional breeding ground. When growing in flower pots on a sunny terrace, for example, this has great advantages. For example, on warm, sunny days it often happens that plants in flower pots dry out too much. When the substrate retains too little moisture, the roots dry out and eventually even die off. For the plants, this means a stagnation in development and unnecessary stress. For Cocolite-11, the fibers used in the bark of coconuts are used. These fibers naturally contain a high concentration of salt, because most coconut trees grow in the vicinity of the sea. Such high concentrations of salt are not suitable for growing plants and therefore the fibers are first washed well. After the salt has been washed out, the coconut fibers are stripped of germs and / or vermin by means of hot steam. This special treatment largely determines the quality of the coconut substrate. Cocolite-11 is provided with the RHP quality mark (Regeling Handels Potgronden), this guarantees that the coconut fibers have been properly washed, steamed and buffered. When buffering the coconut fibers, magnesium and lime are added to the water in which the fibers are washed. This addition already provides the right minerals!
